Shape layer faux 3D vs. Extrusion
Initially, I wanted to rotate the coffee mug just using shape layers for a faux 3D look. After some experimentation, I decided it would be quicker and easier to use Extrusion since it would allow for easier editing. However, I did have to manually animate the shadows with shape layers.
I precomped all the components of the mug (mug, handle, coffee, plate) and used a Null to rotate the entire mug comp. The handle was created using a Merge Paths Subtract operation.
